Bio

Fyodor is from Yakutsk, Fairbanks’ Sister City. He was born in 1943 in the village of Tabaga, Yakutia. Fyodor is the member of the Russian Fine Art Association and National Artist of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia). Classically trained in bone and ivory at the Yakutsk Art School, Fydor returns for his eighth Fairbanks World Ice Art Championships.  Fydor’s team won the IX annual Ice on Whyte international ice sculpture contest in Edmond, Canada. Fydor’s exhibits include: Montreal, Canada; Bucharest, Romania; Leipzig, Germany from 1981 to 1985 and the “Russian Reverie on Azure Coast” Festival in Paris in 1996.  Fyodor began his art career working in the Soviet era as a jeweler and wood-carver. He has created more than 700 exhibition level bone-carvings employing flat-relief carving and relief frieze techniques in the minutest details. His work includes monumental tethering poles, animal miniatures, caskets, knives, and jewelry in both folk genre and modern abstract. One can find his works in more than 50 exhibitions including the largest museums of Russia and the world as well as famous private collections, including incrusted mammoth tusk in Prince Phillip’s, Duke of Edinburgh.
